After its adoption by Dartmouth Athletics, the Lone Pine logo was incorporated into the 2018 new Dartmouth College insignia, that had already included the Dartmouth "D." The Lone Pine is a storied tree that was known as a gathering spot for seniors in the early 1800s before being cut down in 1895 due to damage from lightning strikes. The stump is still used for commencements and special events. The Dartmouth Pine (colloquially known as the D-Pine) insignia honors Dartmouth College's legacy and tradition. Green.
